Arcana - Raspail (2008)

For those pining for the deathly side of lustrous medieval beauty, look no further than Arcana. If one could pinpoint Raspail with a single word, it would perhaps be "haunted." This Swedish band here has effectively painted a work in ancient instruments and vivid hymns the feeling of being lost in a Scandinavian forest in winter, as the sun begins to set for a 30 day span. Chilly and certainly macabre, it is a must for fans of the bleaker ends of the neo-folk genre.

"Raspail" consta de un total de 10 tracks, donde, a diferencia de sus anteriores trabajos, la voz toma un papel fundamental e innovador. Los temas se reparten entre voz masculina y femenina, en raras ocasiones juntas. Lo más llamativo, a nivel personal, es la exploración de la parte masculina con una voz fuerte, presente, melódica, grave, y sostenida. Las voces femeninas suenan en su mayor parte medievales, o heavenly-voices. La música es una mezcla suave de aires orientales, música medieval, todo rodeado de misterio y grandiosidad atávica.
